At The Nutrition Clinic we don’t subscribe to one diet philosophy alone and see the benefit in working with clients to find the best nutritional plan that starts to feel like a lifestyle opposed to a strict diet regime. We see some people following a version of a ketogenic diet that doesn’t sit well with us. It’s usually high in meat and dairy with very little variety from vegetables or fruit.
There is often little attention given to the quality of meat and dairy too- this could mean a lot of hormones making their way into each meal. One of the things we see with a poorly executed ketogenic diet is constipation, if you're not eating enough fibre. We also see an electrolyte imbalance as most ketogenic diets need supporting supplements.
Yes, their may be rapid weight-loss but at what risk to other body processes later on? Ketogenic adapted diets can be done well and be a great tool but we believe it needs to be done with a focus on quality and plant based food.
Weight-loss should never be the only goal, especially if it is at the detriment to your long-term health.
