The Weekly Edit: Volume 1, Issue 3
When navigating through iHerb, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the endless choices they have. iHerb has loads of good products, but also a lot of not so good options. One question we constantly get–– ‘Can I get this on iHerb?’. When it comes to supplements, we scrutinise every ingredient so you don’t have to!
This week, we want to share with you some of our favourite products from iHerb that we use everyday. Some as dietary supplements, others for baking and beauty!
Volume 1, Issue 2 of The Weekly Edit.
Supplements
While some products may appear cheaper, it’s usually because they don’t have a high dose of the active ingredients. Otherwise, they are filled with unnecessary fillers and preservatives. A high percentage of supplements don’t even test positive for the ingredients they claim to contain! The supplements we stock at TNC are third party tested for quality and efficacy.
On iHerb, we recommend products from Metabolic Maintenance and Thorne. They are practitioner grade, which means that they are aware of the latest research. More importantly, they don’t compromise on quality of active ingredients or use unnecessary fillers. You’ll also notice that they are mostly capsules and the same goes for what we stock. We like capsules, powders and tinctures instead of tablets. This is because a lot of fillers are used to hold a tablet together.
Here at The Nutrition Clinic, we aim to offer the highest quality products availble at affordable pricing. So, do a price comparison and reach out if you have questions. We try to ensure we are comparable or even lower in pricing than iHerb.
Baking
High quality spices for baking–– We love using cinnamon to add sweetness to our coffee and help balance blood sugar. It’s also great in tea especially in the afternoon when sugar cravings strike!
Whole Psyllium Husks–– A staple in our house’s for baking, especially our almond bread rolls! And it’s much cheaper then buying in store.
Organic Almond Flour–– Another staple for gluten free baking. We always have 1-2 bags of this at home!
Organic Coconut Flour–– Coconut flour usually goes a long way. Once open we store it in the freezer
Cocoa Powder–– Cocoa powder is excellent to have on hand to satisfy chocolate cravings and provide an anti-oxidant punch. We add it to Tahini and some smashed banana for a quick treat or into a smoothie. We also mix it into coconut butter for a frozen treat!
Snacks
Raw Seaweed–– A great snack when you’re after something salty. Bonus, kids tend to LOVE it!
Whole Unsalted Raw Cashew or Dry Roasted Pumpkin Seeds–– Nuts are a great snaking alternative! It is also a fuss-free way to pack in additional vitamins and minerals into your diet.
Paleo Thin Crakers–– We usually make our own crackers. But for times when convenience is key, these crackers are great. If you an tolerate dairy, try having it with cheese for a great snack! Otherwise, smashed avocado works equally perfectly.
Power snacks–– These energising mocha snacks contains dates, thus are on the higher sugar side. So remember to keep your serving size low!
Home/ Cleaning/ Beauty
Laundry Soda–– We’ve been using this for ages, and it lasts forever! Plus it’s free of a lot of nasties in conventional options!
Dr. Wood’s Peppermint Castile Soap–– This brand is great for body wash/ hand soap. Especially for babies and kids, the baby option is great as its free of any essential oils. This is also a good option if you want to add your own essential oils to create your own custom blends!
Anti-bug Balm–– There has been a lot more bugs and mosquitos around lately, and this balm really seems to deter them. It’s super gentle and toxin free!
Salt Toothpaste––This toothpaste contains sea salt and gentle mineral abrasive particles. With regular usage, it is able to prevent tooth discolouration and can help reduce the build-up of tartar. Once you switch to a natural toothpaste (it takes some adjustment at first), conventional toothpaste tastes terrible! Free from fluoride.
BPA-Free Feeding Set–– If you are worried about having toxic chemicals in baby’s products, this is a great choice for safe materials. Both Bonnie and Pooja love this brand for their children’s snack boxes and water bottles!
Cooking
Kelp Noodles–– Pooja is a huge fan of Konjac noodles! It’s versatile, easy to prepare and mineral rich! She loves them for anything from stir-fry noodles to soups and wraps.
All purpose seasoning–– Frontier Co-Op has a great range of spices for cooking. Healthy cooking should never be bland when you have excellent spice options!
Organic Creamed Coconut–– We keep this on hand in the pantry for curries and coconut treats. Unlike most coconut milk/cream options, this product is free from fillers/ thickeners and preservatives.
Avocado oil–– Avocado oil is excellent for higher heat cooking as it has a higher smoke point to other oils. It has a buttery, mild nutty flavor, which make sit perfect for any cooking, drizzling and dressing needs.
Mayonnaise with Avocado Oil–– This is a great option to regular mayonnaise (if you can take eggs). It is sugar free thus is a good option if you are looking to control your sugar intake. Use this for any dishes like eggs/ tacos/ roasted veggies, they’ll taste amazing!
